Trainer
Gypsy and Traveller families can face additional barriers when accessing children’s services, including discrimination, cultural misunderstanding, negative stereotypes and a lack of trust in statutory services.
These experiences can affect relationships with professionals and influence how families engage with support, safeguarding processes and decisions about their children.
This webinar explores the experiences of Gypsy and Traveller families when working with children’s services, including the importance of understanding cultural diversity, recognising the impact of discrimination and building meaningful relationships with families. It will consider how assumptions and misunderstandings can influence professional practice, assessment and decision-making.
The session will offer practical guidance for professionals on building trust, communicating effectively with families, undertaking fair and culturally informed assessments, and providing appropriate support while prioritising children’s safety and wellbeing.
