Co-development involves working in partnership with the people who are directly affected by services, policies and decisions to shape solutions that reflect their needs, experiences and priorities.

However, involving people in decision-making requires more than simply asking for their views. It means creating accessible opportunities to participate, building trust, recognising different forms of expertise and ensuring that contributions lead to meaningful change.

Drawing on years of experience in co-development with Gypsy and Traveller communities, this webinar explores the principles and practicalities. It will consider how professionals and organisations can build equitable partnerships, overcome barriers to participation and ensure that involvement is inclusive, ethical and meaningful.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the principles of co-development and how it differs from consultation and engagement
  • Recognise the importance of lived experience in shaping effective services, policies and interventions
  • Identify power imbalances and barriers that can prevent Gypsy and Traveller people from participating meaningfully
  • Understand how to ensure that co-development is ethical, inclusive and culturally responsive
  • Identify ways to provide feedback and demonstrate how people’s contributions have influenced outcomes
  • Know practical steps for embedding co-development within your own work and organisation
  • Ask questions and explore challenges in a live Q&A session
